Lata Mangeshkar was born in a Marathi-speaking Gomantak Maratha family in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a classical singer and theater actor. His mother Shevanti (Shudamati) hailed from Thalner in Maharashtra and was Dinanath’s second wife. The family’s surname (surname) was Hardikar, but Dinanath changed it to Mangeshkar, so that his name represented his family’s village Mangeshi, Goa.
Lata Mangeshkar early life
Lata Mangeshkar was named “Hema” at birth but later her name was changed to Lata. Lata Mangeshkar is the first child of her parents. Along with this, Meena, Asha Bhosle, Usha and Hridaynath are his siblings.
Lata Mangeshkar learned his first lesson from his father. At the age of five, Lata started acting as an actress for her father’s Sangeet Natak (musical drama). From the very first day of school, he started teaching songs to children. When the teachers tried to stop her, she got very angry and had to stop going to school.
According to sources, it has also been learned that Lata used to bring Asha to school with her and the school people refused to bring her along, so she left the school.
In 1942, at the age of 13, recorded a song for a Marathi film. The film was released but due to some reason the song was removed from the film, due to which Lata Mangeshkar ji was very upset.
In the same year, Lata Mangeshkar‘s father died of a heart attack. Lata Mangeshkar ji was the eldest of all the siblings in her house, so all the responsibility fell on her shoulders. Vinayak Damodar was the owner of a film company, who was a good friend of Dinanath ji, after his departure he took care of Lata ji’s family.
In 1945, Lata Mangeshkar ji came to Mumbai and started taking training from Amanat Ali Khan. Lata Mangeshkar ji also sang a song for the Hindi film ‘Aap Ki Seva Mein’ in 1947, but no one paid any attention to her.
At that time singer Noor Jahan, Shamshad Begum, Zohrabhai Amblewali dominated, only this singer was fully active, her voice was heavy and different, Lata ji’s voice sounded very thin and suppressed in front of her.
In 1949, Lata Mangeshkar ji went on to sing in 4 consecutive hit films and everyone got her attention. The films Barsaat, Dulari, Andaz and Mahal were hits, out of which the song ‘Aayega Aane Wala’ from the film Mahal became a super hit and Lata ji found her feet in Hindi cinema.
Lata Mangeshkar ji also has the distinction of recording the most number of songs. Apart from film songs, you have sung non-film songs very well. Lata ji’s talent was recognized in 1947, when she got a chance to sing a song in the film “Aapki Seva Mein”.

Lata Mangeshkar patriotic songs
An event was organized to pay tribute to the martyrs after the Indo-China war of 1962. The then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was also present in it. Everyone was stunned to hear the song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logan” sung by Lata Mangeshkar ji at this function.

Lata Mangeshkar Music Training
Lata Mangeshkar ji came to Mumbai in 1945 and started taking music training from Ustad Amanat Ali Khan. Lata ji and her sister Asha also played a small role in Vinayak’s first Hindi film Badi Maa in 1945. In this film, Lata Mangeshkar ji also sang a hymn “Mata Tere Charan Mein”. He was then introduced to music director Vasant Desai for Vinayak’s second Hindi film Subhadra.
After partition in 1947, Ustad Amanat Ali Khan moved to Pakistan, so he started learning classical music from Rajab Ali Khan’s nephew Amanat Khan.
After Vinayak’s death in 1948, Ghulam Haider became his music guru. Ghulam Haider introduced Lata ji to Shashadhar Mukherjee, who was working in the film Shaheed at that time, but Mukherjee refused, saying that his voice was thin.
Little did he know that in the coming times, the producer director would have to pay his feet for losing the song of his film. Haider gave Lata ji a chance in the film Majboor, in which she sang the song “Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhota”, which became the first hit song of her life.
This is the reason why Lata Mangeshkar ji considers Ghulam Haider Sahab as her godfather, who recognized her talent and showed faith in her.
Among the memorable songs sung by Lata, the names of N films are particularly noteworthy – Anarkali, Mughle Azam Amar Prem, Guide, Asha, Premrog, Satyam Shivam Sundaram etc. Even in new films, his voice is not as melodious as before. , but it has also improved, like in Hina, Ramlakhan, etc. Apart from singing as a filmmaker – at one point her songs like ‘Barsaat’, ‘Naagin’ and ‘Pakeezah’ were also in films, Lata ji produced four films on different occasions.
The Marathi film ‘Vadai’ was first made in 1953. In the same year, he produced the Hindi film ‘Jhanjhar’ with composer C. Ramachandra. After that the Hindi film ‘Kanchan’ was made in 1955. The above three were average films. His produced film ‘Lekin’ in 1990 was a hit. Lata ji gave music direction in five films. All the films were Marathi and were made between 1960 and 1969. His first film as a music director was Ram Aur Pawan (1960). Other films were Maratha Tituka Meleva (1962), Sahityaji Manjula (1963), Sadhu Manse (1955) and Tabdi Marg (1969).
